It takes (me, a civilian) an hour to read a page of hitchens. Every other sentence there's a word to look up, and he consistently assumes the reader has *at least* A Level French. Why use one word when 75 sounds better? Why stick to the English language when you can sprinkle in a little je ne sais quoi?

Does not help that I started reading not knowing what is a metope, frieze or 'doric age'. Quel desastre.
