Status Updates From Critics, Monsters, Fanatics...

Me aburrió el texto sobre los hebreos, pero de ahí volvió a levantar el libro 🙌🏻

El capítulo sobre Kafka es espléndido.

«La mejor pregunta no es quiénes leerán, ni cómo leerán, sino por qué».

«Pero un crítico no es nada sin una postura autoritaria, o sin un estándar, o incluso un prejuicio, contra el cual se pueda poner a prueba una perspectiva o proposición opuesta. Atenerse a un punto de vista es un valor crítico en sí mismo».

The first essay is the piece that 90% of lit critics produce. The worry about the status of the novel, the nature of literary prestige, and the related history of literary ideas/the purpose of literature. I love these essays but they're never rigorous. It's interesting they all agree for the most part among different critics. Few will argue we're in a robust lit culture in the novel's heyday.
