July’s characters traverse any boundary we might imagine could or should exist between people or within a person. Their painful journeys feel necessitated—if not predestined—by their loneliness, that the only way to bear the abyss is to violate something or to fantasize about doing so. It’s heartbreaking they see no other way across. It’s illuminating how tenderly and willingly July crosses with them.
