Status Updates From The Valley of Decision

This is going slowly; I am really trying to stick with this.

Not her typical novel, but this was her first. Big changes were ahead for her writing, that much becomes clear if you've read some of her other novels.

I will not let this book defeat me.

This is going to be a slog.

Kind of an oddball first major novel - hopes and failure of enlightenment in late 18th-century northern Italy, with, as this is all kind of obscure, a lot of necessary historical setting. It's not bad. but I'm guessing her writing got better in later novels.

If I did not know this was Edith Wharton, I would swear it was not.
