Ch. 5
This chapter argues that there needs to be a lessening of criminalizing homelessness. He talks about how it's difficult and often a never ending cycle within the criminal justice system for homelessness and victims of it. Again he mentions the importance of preventative measures and ways to treat the causes instead of always resulting to police. Policing is not the solution, it never was and never will be

ch. 4:
I love this chapter because it's so true and I think it's what i'm doing my paper on
this chapter argues that resources should be spent on better mental health services for people rather than so much money sending police out to the mental health crises calls. I agree. Another chapter that emphasizes treating the "cause" instead of the "outcome". preventative measures are more valuable here than policing

Chapter 3:
He argues that police should be taken out of the schools and should focus more on the students overall wellbeing, aka preventative measures to "disruptions" and "crime" in schools. The research shows that this is more effective rather than turning schools into a place that feels like a prison for students, that could eventually lead to being placed in the CRJ system. Having other trained personnel = better

Chapter 2:
This chapter talks about the history of policing and where it came from. Vitale argues that policing was never made to protect us, especially minorities and the poor class. He mentions the system and how there needs to be change. Important to look at the purpose/function of policing to do this. Looks at modern policing too, it's changed over the years but the system still isn't great.

Good so far; brings up important facts about the policing system as whole. Mentions the use of body cameras, how police are asked to do so much, and how police would be better off without being equipped with weapons. I think it's an interesting take so far on the police system and he uses his research, stats, and names to get his points across. Definitely annotating and keeping this book as I go. Btw book for class
