So… the Rains are the wars fought between the Eborans and the Jure’lia (the worm-people invaders I guess). The Eighth Rain was most recent, when Ygseril (the Eboran tree-god) died. No more immortality sap. Since then, the Eborans started using human blood as a substitute.
The Carrion Wars were the result. Eborans vs humans. It ended due to the Crimson Flux, the side effect of consuming human blood.
Nailed it.

Just finished chapter 4. There seems to be 3 POVs: Tormalin the elf vampire, Vintage the fancy wannabe explorer, and Noon the witch prisoner/slave?
Loving the Tormalin & Noon POVs so far. Unsure of Vintage at the moment, though I love her journal entries at the start of each chapter. Lots of lore there, written as her discoveries from her exploring.

Starting the Winnowing Flame series by Jen Williams. Heard there were Griffins involved.
Just finished the Prologue & chapter 1. Lots of terms that aren’t familiar to me yet, but typical start for a fantasy book. Seems like the Eborans relied on their Tree God’s sap for immortality. Now it’s dead, no more sap, so they become elvish vampires. Feeding on human blood.
No griffins yet, hopefully soon.
