Maybe a case of character derailment: Like, in book 2, Brandon had rejected Mac during the Halloween Dance and was uncomfortable with her around during the dance as Nikki was changing costumes and jobs. So, why would Nikki suddenly believe he would reject her despite being a better friend? I think it's because her self-esteem is pretty fickle, especially when she was worried if Brandon would like her true self. Man.

Reading about Nikki not wanting to bombarded with V-day stuff is so relatable because it feels like I'm pressured by the school to get with a guy or something, even though I have personal priorities!
