Really fascinating account of Hugo's revision process, the intricacies of the publishing deal, the language issues, and what would prove to be the first international book launch. Compounded by the fact that he refused to set foot in France. Shout out to the women in his life because they made it happen. He also has delved into the context and analysis of nearly every major character in the book.

Really enjoying this book so far. Not only describing how the book was written and how it fit within Hugo’s life journey, but it also opens up themes and symbols of the time that I missed during my first read of Les Miserables. I look forward to exploring these concepts upon a re-read.
