amazing stuff! another with "switch-backs" between two stages of the protagonist's life: this time good for totally opposite reasons that WATER FOR ELEPHANTS. This time it's a relief to leave the pain of one period of time, despite it just being different pain at a different time. Too overwhelming to bear either scene too long at a time. Very well-written and draws me back despite all this...
