Reading the Old Man and the Sea, 12th Day.
He dropped the line, put his foot on it and lifted the harpoon as high as possible, sinking it into the fish's heart. The fish came alive and jumped over the skiff with all its energy. After that, it lay sideways on the discoloured sea. The old man drank some water to clear his head. Then he fastened the fish alongside the skiff and stepped the mast, finally heading home.

Reading the Old Man and the Sea, 12th Day.
The old man rigged his harpoon and readied himself to pull the fish alongside. He started pulling, but every time the fish was pulled partway over, it righted itself and swam away. The old man could feel himself go every time he tried to pull it in. He told himself repeatedly that he would try one more time. It took all his strength, and the fish finally came over.
