What a job! If you ever thought your job was too hard, too dangerous, underpaid, or just plain nasty, you should read this book and then decide how bad you really have it! If you are a manager and you've ever thought you didn't have enough to work with to make ends meet, you should read this book! If you just plain enjoy tales of the sea and the men who go there to make a living this book's for you too!

any book about what men are REALLY willing to do for money is a good one! I am reminded here of the Ballad of the Whiskey Robber -Hardberger's story tells time after time of how important it can be to simply not retire and not back down. I think Shackelton would have welcomed Hardberger among his men!

The late 1980s seem so long ago -this is a different Haiti, these are a different sort of pirates than those who operate off the somaliland coast today, yet as in anytime, stories of the sea and the men who go to sea are never dull!

Really enjoying this although it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Very thinly disguised fictional memoir. The author has an MFA from the Iowa Writer's workshop, write well, and has the most extraordinary background.
