So cool to read a text from a Berkeley professor!

Interestingly, this book is an anthropological account of all the things that drew me into philosophy. Its engagement with people like Agamben is, to me, a profound validation — anthropology can be this ‘philosophy-forward’! And it’s such a rewarding read, one of the very few times I’ve experienced from anthropology that unique flavour of euphoria I usually get from continental philosophy.

How images bursting from madness are also acts of ethical confrontation — the bridging without resolving of contradictions, of life and death, future and past, flesh and spirit. How the dissolution of the subject is so intimately linked to the annihilation of culture, of a common plane of signification and experience. And how cure, almost a curse word for crip theory, can also be an engagement with the incurable.

I hope the brief mentioning of psychopharmacology gets elaborated on, but I really like this critical and open approach to Freudian analysis and spirituality in the context of trauma-healing so far!
