This is slow going, but really interesting.

進化論 means theory of evolution. The evolution of BL means two things, basically: BL itself has slowly but surely been evolving, dealing with subjects like homophobia and how to overcome misogyny. And because of that kind of BL, society itself is evolving. That's the basic thesis the book is trying to proof.

What's amazing is that I kept thinking, "Is she writing about me?" when I read the foreword where she recalls her own history with BL (or rather its predecessors) and its influence on her acceptance of her own sexuality. I didn't really read BL (or m/m) either, but whatever novel that was sort of like it I could find, and it definitely influenced me and helped me, too.
