Status Updates From The Complete Arkangel Shake...

I had a day trip out of town, so I listened to Hamlet, which was long enough for both legs of the drive.

Finished Macbeth, which was a brilliant audiobook version. Next up is Hamlet.

Finished Troilus and Cressida.

Finished Henry VIII. Next up is Troilus and Cressida.

Finished listening to King John, a play I'm growing rather to enjoy.

Listened to The Two Noble Kinsmen.

Listened to Pericles, Prince of Tyre.

Listened to The Winter's Tale.

Finished Twelfth Night. It was delightful.

Finished As You Like It. I think this is now one of my favorite plays.

Listened to The Taming of the Shrew.

Listened to The Merchant of Venice.

Listened to Love's Labour's Lost.

Listened to The Tempest.

Finished Much Ado About Nothing one day ahead of the screening. Next up is Antony and Cleopatra, though I don't know who I'm leaving these notes for since nobody can read them, and I can barely find them myself. Fuck Amazon for wrecking Goodreads.

Just finished Othello. It bowled me over as a text and it's absolutely shattering in this audiobook version. Fortunately, I'm not going to follow it up with another tragedy. Instead, I'll listen to Much Ado About Nothing, which is another play about misled witnesses to supposed adultery. I might wait until next week to listen to it, because on Wednesday I plan to see the National Theatre Live screening.

Finished Julius Caesar last night and forgot to note that until now. Next up, if I go in order, is Othello.

Finished The Merry Wives of Windsor, which was very funny and warm-hearted. I know a lot of critics don't like it, but I think it's an excellent play. It's Shakespeare venturing into farce and writing that well is actually quite hard to do. Besides, it was the inspiration for my favorite comic opera, Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi.

Next up is Julius Caesar.

Finished Measure for Measure. Next up is The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Finished The Comedy of Errors. Next up, if I go in order, is Measure for Measure.

Forgot to mention that I had listened to As You Like It several days ago. Next up is The Comedy of Errors if I go strictly by the order of the plays I've read, but I've been tempted to skip ahead.

Finished listening to Coriolanus. It's one of the most brilliant things Shakespeare ever wrote. Next up is my second-favorite Shakespeare comedy, As You Like It.

I forgot to mention my finishing Timon of Athens about a week ago. It's a difficult play to love, but I'm finding greater strengths in it every time I read or listen to it.

Listened to Richard III and next up, since I already listened to A Midsummer Night's Dream, is Timon of Athens.

Listened to A Midsummer Night's Dream. It's a little out of order with respect to my reading of the plays, but I just watched the episode of Upstart Crow inspired by this play so I felt like listening to it now.

Finished Henry VI, Part 3 at long last. The CD player in my car ate the second disc and wouldn't give it back, so it took me forever to finish. As a result, my impression of the play is rather disjointed. Now I'm not going to listen to any more of these audiobooks in the car, but that will further stall my progress. Next up is Richard III whenever I can get around to it.

Finished Henry VI, Part Two. This is a vastly better play than Henry VI, Part One because Shakespeare had much more of a hand in it, though there is some possible evidence of collaboration in this play.

Listened to Henry VI, Part One. Since I'm planning on reading and listening to the entire first tetralogy, I'll also be listening to Henry VI, Part Two; Henry VI, Part Three; and Richard III.

Listened to The Taming of the Shrew. Now I'm finally caught up on my backlog and I'll be able to start listening to the plays I just read immediately on completing them. The next one is likely to be King Lear or Macbeth, though I also have to read The Comedy of Errors sometime this month as well.

Finished Titus Andronicus. It was a brilliant and disturbing performance of a brutal play.
