Status Updates From Accomplice to Memory

I picked up this book after noticing a similarity in premise to Theresa Cha's "Dictée", which I loved for its interweaving of memoir, ethnography, and fiction. Just a few pages in, I can't say I love the style, which (especially after Dictée) strikes me as a little sentimental... but it is certainly very readable (not something I could always say of Dictée), and I'm interested in what Zhang will do with the form.
