While crime statistics can reproduce racial narratives that blame people of color for the vast majority of crime, other forms of crime are overlooked.

Makes sense right? The police picks and chooses what they report to the FBI's UCR. They can form any story they want even though 70 percent of Whites are those being arrested compared to 26 percent of Blacks.

Blaming parents and young people of color for the educational failure is a popular accusation, but the main reason for the achievement gap is inequality in schools. On virtually every measure of school quality schools with large majorities of Black and Latino students fall below predominantly White schools.

I'm not shocked at all.

What you don't see can be just as damaging as you do see. For example, limited images or histories of people of color in textbooks teach all of us that somehow people of color do not matter or that they are inferior, marginal, and different.

The "what you don't see" in textbooks is something you see Americans did with Native American history and it's heartbreaking.

This quote is very important.

Fredrickson's observation points to an important element of racism, namely, that it emerges only in societies where there is a racialized system of power.

"Again, race is a social construction, created through the actions and beliefs of people, most often those with a vested interest in devising and maintaining a system of racial inequality."

this is very important
