I can't even imagine what it would be like to see your parent on the nightly news being tagged "a serial killer" So far the author has described in great detail the mixed bag of feelings a teenager would have when confronted with this horrifying issue.

Kevin finally thinks of calling the jail where his dad is at. So he won't go behind his mom's back, he tells her he's going to visit his dad. Mom promises to go with him. But, her job offers her double and a half pay. They really need her at work. The family really needs money.
