Chaucer (the author) has a fun capacity for mocking himself with his characters. The Host just said stopped Chaucer (the character) in the middle of his first attempt at a story and said “your shithouse rhyming isn’t worth a turd”.

The father of english literature is cerntainly the father of English literature.

The miller’s tale was hilarious and I absolutely understand why it was not used in the brief unit we did on this book in 11th grade english

So uhhh… I don’t know if its my translation, but Chaucer dropping the C word (or rather its Middle English equivalent) was jarring and unexpected
