Liking it so far. It makes me think of Becky Chambers and Small, Angry Planet with its various approachable aliens.

The world was still sparkling. Even Diver was sparkling, bits of light jumping around his face and clinging to his hair. I giggled.
“You’re sparkling, you know,” I told him, trying to remain solemn while laughter tickled my throat. “Did you go and turn into a vampire?”

If I had to nit-pick, I would say that the F-M part of the romance gets more attention and space then the F-F side of romance (this is a poly series). I noticed this in the first book too, but it definitely clicked here. I do hope we get more Kiri time in the sequel...

“Too smart. Her species has always been clever, and they’ve only gotten more so over the millennia, but Marbles is exceptional even for her kind.”

“Smart birdie,” Marbles agreed, lifting one clawed foot and extending it towards me. “Millet now for smart birdie.”

As soon as she was out of hearing range, Aki swung around to stare at Shan Fung. “Who did that to her and how soon do we get to kill them?”

Starting of grim, but I hope that once we get to the first contact part it will get more fun!

I'm enjoying this and enjoying being back with these characters!

I just have a nitpick about the chapter titles lol

I mean, yes, she has birds and that alone is a reason I will read a book. But she keeps them alone, without a partner of the same species, and I can't overlook this. It makes me so sad.
