A bit disappointed to see that Roy seems to center herself and her perspective rather than her characters in an effort to make sure the contrarian politics comes across as she intends. Still, that’s a minority of the narration: there are more times where we learn many deep truths through characters’ own descriptions. But I would expect no such imbalance from an author like Roy.
