Alright. Up next is the Condominium Rule Period, probably one of the most infamous. Been so excited to reach this part. Already covered the military conquest of the Sudan and the end of the Mahdiya, can't wait to read on to the actual social colonization and see what it was like, how Sudan developed from there on. I've always been interested in the cultural impact of it, esp the condo succeeding the MAHDIYA ffs

So far, the chapters that I've found the most interesting were of the Turko-Egyptian Period, for the surprisingly well-intended Pashas and their ambitions and efforts in actually educating the natives, modernizing their lifestyles, and establishing the foundations of the modern sudan. The only conquerers who actually aimed at helping the natives

Daftardar's the only exception. And the hikimdars of sudan.

>After a period of tense expectancy, the Nile expedition attacked in April 1898. In a fierce battle, which lasted two and half hours, Mahmoud's army was completely wiped out and Mahmoud was taken prisoner and sent to Egypt.

Imagine marching for literally 10 months to reach the battlefield, massacring an entire tribe along ur way, only to be defeated in literally 2.5 hours

It really do be like that sometimes

I've actually covered nearly half of this book but I'm trying to absorb all the information. The first segment, about the ancient Sudan is surprisingly interesting, coming from me who isn't too big on studying history for how complicated it can be

But this book is so well written and so to the point. I really appreciate the simple writing too. Why is this no longer taught at schools?
