I feel bad for complaining about the art in Nightmare Asylum now, because Earth War is truly atrocious. It’s the worst of the 90s on display; the lines are amateur, the character designs ridiculous, and the colors nauseating. The writing’s still good, although hearing Newt repeat herself about how “perfect” the aliens are is getting pretty old.

I am sorry to say that the artwork on this one is a little too haphazard for me. It’s nice to have color, and some panels are very nicely done, but others just look sloppy, and it can be hard to tell Hicks apart from a lot of the other characters.

Already Nightmare Asylum is a very different beast than the first series, despite having the same writer (but a different artist and letterer). I like it so far, especially seeing Newt suit up to protect Hicks and Butler from the remaining aliens.

They never knew pain, the fear of death. And , if you never live, you can never die. There's a kind of immortality to that.

I used to wonder why they reclaimed themselves--filled their world with decay and death. Then I realized they're immersed in death. They surround themselves with it. Perhaps that's terrible. Sheer finality is the only thing they truly understand.
