Very interesting exposition of illuminations brought together for an exhibition at the Getty Museum. The purpose, to show the place and many roles of medieval women revealed in these small works of art. They are beautifully reproduced here.

Using the examples of various medieval images, many from Books of Hours, many also from the Getty Museum, this book's stated purpose is to increase insight into the daily lives of medieval women. Among the basics found: that women, at least wealthy women, owned, commissioned and sometimes even produced these works.

Very promising overview of medieval women thus far. The introduction assumes little knowledge by the reader and the illustrations are plentiful and quite lovely. Since I'm viewing this on a computer I'm unsure how good the color tones are, though Getty Publishing tends to be very good in both color and paper quality.
