The quote "There were very few of the ranchers but what would traffic with the Rustlers if they seen a bargain" is used to darken Hooker's reputation, while it wasn't alluded to in relation to other ranchers such as the Clantons and McLaurys, who were presumed innocent of dealing with rustlers.

Johnson deals very even-handedly with Ringo, despite him having assassinated one man and shot another by now, but this is undermined when the chapter introducing the Earps and Holliday is so very anti. They weren't saints either, but a similar even-handed approach is surely called for? Or is Johnson just so sick of Ringo and the Cowboys being demonised, that he feels the Earps deserve similar treatment in return?
