This one let the reader know his fate without having to actually show it, which I liked the lack of spoon-feeding. I did get a little confused on the gun showdown as the men were just in the room when his wife left him? Hiding idk.

This one was interesting also and would've done well as a Twilight Zone episode.

4.5* just for some confusing climax w the gunned men, also had a very quick conclusion

Geez the wife (read: every female character so far) is written very “of the times” to put it lightly

Man holds him at gunpoint, he manages to disarm then says what if they implant a diff memory, something exciting that won’t make him yearn for adventure again. They agree to say he met aliens and saved the planet but when he goes under he remembers saving the planet but also killing a man on Mars. So he’s doomed.

When MC leaves he thinks wow great to be back on Earth and in his pocket is 50% refund for his troubles. He goes to the company to demand the rest of refund since the memories didn’t take and he remembers his trip to the office. They refund and warn to never talk about this fake trip

He plans to report company but sees a box of souvenirs he smuggled out of Mars, fauna and such. So he’s been. But not this fake trip

Story II

Quail wants to go to Mars but can’t because it’s only co-op military missions. So he pays exorbitant price to have memories implanted in him (along with souvenirs, they thought of everything lol) that he had a vacation to Mars

Middle of procedure he comes to saying he was an undercover operative, so some company erased his memories but the desire to go to Mars couldn’t be erased
