40ish% on and this really picks up. The recitation of the tale of genji, tale of the heiki, and the confessions of lady nijo were a big part of that (and ofc samurai history is fascinating).

I’m ngl im not sure how much I’m absorbing bc this feels like a series of sequential bullet points, but I’m enjoying it! I wish he did a general overview before diving into it, that would have been immensely helpful.
