I’m tired. Need to finish this. The mystery of the dead boy and girl is moving too slowly. There’s been too many bus activities that are low stakes for nothing to have happened. Sigh.

I think this story has been a drag because the underlying story ain’t that interesting. The stakes aren’t high enough and given how long Ms. Clark takes to uncover a mystery, it just feels like mid level sleuthing. Brinkman is a defense attorney with a wild streak. This book has none of the messy clients of fast paced interrogations and certainly is near zero on courtroom drama. This is the weakest book by far.

Half way mark and still don’t know where this is going. Ms. Clark keeping up with her usual MO I see. This has even less court drama than the last. It’s forgivable because I already like Samantha and the team and look forward to their antics. But the book thrives as a courtroom thriller more than an investigative one. All in all. Likely gonna be a solid 3*

I don’t know why it feels like this book is much slower moving than the previous ones. The case isn’t boring but the stakes aren’t as high as the previous two.

I’ve attempted to read a number of female led thrillers between book 2 and book 3 in this series, including guilty by association by this author. But Samantha Brinkman’s voice and world are like a warm cushion. I’m just going to commit to finishing the series.
