"The change in usage [from last names to first names], whatever one thinks of it, is symptomatic of a general breakdown of the boundaries between public and private life, between formal and familiar, between grown-up and childish, between high and low, refined and vulgar, sacred and profane. This leveling of boundaries is itself entirely American..."

Fascinating. Most interesting book I've read this semester, and I'm not even done. While I may not entirely agree with everything, I recognize that I ought to think about everything I have ever thought and he has ever said within these pages to that end. I have great respect for this man and this book. He is an incredible author as well. The book would be dry if not for his Supreme Wit.

For Honors Colloquium, I have read the Foreword, the Introduction, and chapters 1, 2, 3, & 14. I aim to finish the book when I am not bedeviled by assignments on schedules marching two-by-two. 🙃

A Honors Colloquium read - we have only been assigned select chapters and sections, but this is a book I want to consume cover to cover when I am not otherwise employed by the distraction of class, alas.
So far, we have read the Foreword, Introduction, and chapters 1, 2, 3, & 14.
