Status Updates From Camped Out (Orca Currents)

- Sadly I never finished this in time for the end of September so I’m not feeling it anymore. Onto the DNF pile it goes!

- My 7th read for the September MG Reading Challenge!
- Contrary to what is being portrayed, I don’t think Max actually hates Duncan. I think his hateful comments and narrative are misplaced anger from feeling like his mum doesn’t treat him equally to Duncan, projected insecurity from Duncan acting strangely in public, and prolonged grief and anger from the loss/replacement of his dead dad by the new boyfriend.

Max and Duncan go on the lake and they get to know that other kids at the camp. Duncan wants to go home and Max doesn’t want to deal with him anymore. The counselor makes him feel comfortable and they start playing batman so he doesn’t freak out on the boat. Also, Max is feeling a little left out because his friend is hanging out with a girl and Max only has Duncan.

Max and his brother go into the dining hall to get dinner. His brother starts to throw a fit because he doesn't like the food and all the attention is on them. Then all the camp leaders start a chant and max is forced to run around the building so all the attention is off him.

Max begins to realize that having his brother at camp isn't so bad. He starts to realize how important he is to him and that he is glad he came along with him.

Max and his brother start their week with the fun activities and they are having fun at the camp. Max realizes that being at camp with his brother isn't so bad after all.

Max and his brother get to the camp and they are already excited about it. Even though Max is a little on edge about his brother being there he is excited to spend the week there. Max gets all his items in the cabin and meets the camp counselor Ben.

Max and his friends want to get away for the summer and go to camp but Max is mad when his mom tells him that his brother has to join because thats the only way they can afford it.
