I am baffled how this ended up on a Instagram reel about romantasy books since this is squarely in the YA genre. I would have enjoyed this in third grade…. as a thirty something, not so much. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize this would not ever turn into a romance novel, and that I had, apparently, been duped.

Getting real annoyed at how everyone keeps telling the main character she’s thinking too much of herself. She’s literally a child back off.

1. The women who are running every place we hear about, but not doing whatever *thing* that place is known for
2. Grand ending, but what they really shld have done at the least is Menora sit down with Menolly for a chat to ask abt her music + explain she could go learn more if she wanted. But, yes, McCaffrey is queen w/this wonderfully cathartic grand ending instead

Always love this book tho
Even with the family abuse at the beginning, Menolly’s instinct + need for music + her connection w/the fire lizards + dragons as well as her ability to forage + care for herself just pulls me in every time
