If we desire to magnify God in our souls, we, too, must be willing to draw near to Christ's cross and be pierced by the sword. Jesus is looking for souls who are willing to follow him in his passion. In the Gospels, large crowds flock to Jesus to watch his spectacular miracles, to receive healing, or to be fed from his multiplication of loaves. But few seek out Jesus in his passion and draw near to him on Calvary.

“If we sincerely tell God that we will pursue his plans for our lives—if we tell him that we will do whatever he wants—we should not be surprised if he takes us up on that offer from time to time… If we are to be like Mary, a servant of the Lord, it is not enough to be open to God's will. We must be willing to let Jesus act.”
