At Your Service is one a very demanding read. I *think* it's about an elderly woman who has worked as a servant all her life and is asked to look after some dogs in a wealthy home filled with an assortment of gentlemen; later, she is asked to attend a funeral and pretend to be the deceased's mother. It's very whacky and eccentric. Not my favourite. Axolotl and The Night Face-up are still top.

I’m really impressed with these stories so far. Some of them remind me of Borges, while others are closer to literary realism. While I can see the genius of “Blow Up,” my favorites have been “Letter to a Young Lady in Paris,” “Bestiary,” “The Gates of Heaven,” and “The End of the Game,” the former two are examples of Borgesian short stories, the latter of two literary realism.

I’ve been reading one story a day. “Letter to a Young Lady in Paris” is my favorite so far. It alone is worth the price of admission. (You can find online for free. It’s about a 15 minutes read.)
