Finished chapter two! Mainly about Eichmann and his past and whether he had motive for being an anti-Semite — or his lies might be a better descriptor. Parts of his personality conceptually reminded me of Crime and Punishment, about if “evil” can lie in “normalcy”. He said that no, he was not anti-Semitic, he just needed a job. Personally, I found that admission really chilling

This next section is interesting on the topic of Zionism — there is now an argument of Hitler being the true victim: “Hitler was innocent of the slaughter of the Jews; he is a victim of the Zionists, who had ‘compelled him to perpetrate crimes that would eventually enable them to achieve their aim — the creation of the State of Israel”. Adolf Eichmann is about to be accused in the section “The Accused”

Interesting perspectives so far! It is opening with discussion on the Nuremberg trials, and about the Jewish forgiveness of the Germans. What is being presented is that the minority of Germans were Nazis, but what is being argued is if a “great majority (had been) happy to help their Jewish fellow-citizens when they could”, then why did they remain silent if so many Germans knew? Leading to the Eichmann trial.
