You probably can't understand much of the world without reading history. I rarely pick up history books since I don't expect myself to remember much, but in a way, I'm finding history so much easier to digest than all the information I'm supposed to know at any given time because of the news. How on Earth am I supposed to not be overwhelmed by the numerous bad things that happen in a single day?

A very good overview of the early origins of the split between Marx and Bakunin, as well as the International's relationship with the Paris Commune

An excellent comprehensive overview of the many forces at play in the middle of the 19th century. Interesting to see the role pre-Party formations played in international solidarity. Also helpful to understand how socialists began coming to terms with the differences between their views and liberalism.
