Philosophical digressions from the main topic drive me nuts. Three chapters were basically just one question of why Johan Laidoner and Konstantin Päts agreed to the deployment of Soviet military bases on Estonian territory - with no answer in sight.

It came as a total surprise to me that Estonian high authorities sought cooperation with the USSR against the possible German attack in 1939. Or the book's author plays a sensation card? I need to read other books on the topic...

Considering how energetic and organized Laidoner was during WW1 and Estonian War for Independence, it's more surprising why there was no fight in 1939. We'll see further in the book...
