"Once female modesty became a first casualty of the sexual revolution, even women eager for marriage lost their greatest power to hold and to discipline their prospective mates. For it is a woman's refusal of sexual importunings, coupled with hints or promises of later gratification, that is generally a necessary condition of transforming a man's lust into love."

"Anyone who seriously contemplates the present scene is - or should be - filled with profound sadness, all the more so if he or she knows the profound satisfactions of a successful marriage."

Fascinating. Most interesting book I've read this semester, and I'm not even done. While I may not entirely agree with everything, I recognize that I ought to think about everything I have ever thought and he has ever said within these pages to that end. I have great respect for this man and this book. He is an incredible author as well. The book would be dry if not for his Supreme Wit.

For Honors Colloquium, I have read the Foreword, the Introduction, and chapters 1, 2, 3, & 14. I aim to finish the book when I am not bedeviled by assignments on schedules marching two-by-two. 🙃

A Honors Colloquium read - we have only been assigned select chapters and sections, but this is a book I want to consume cover to cover when I am not otherwise employed by the distraction of class, alas.
So far, we have read the Foreword, Introduction, and chapters 1, 2, 3, & 14.
