Some of these lines are so sad “This hurts so bad I wish I could just die” in a prayer too 😭

“…and Zen said both her parents were dead, and then she got all emotional, and Mom has to comfort her. That is sad, for sure. To lose both your parents so young. I wonder if she did something really bad so that God had to punish her like that.”

Damnit, I didn’t know how much transphobia there would be in this book

I feel like my reading experience is gonna be pretty similar to when I read “The Many Half-Lived Lives Of Sam Sylvester” (great start with spot-on gender feels, but the friend group felt a little tacked-on and the mystery stuff wasn’t executed well)

I'm reading this for a reading challenge and I'm trying to not judge too harshly given this is a middle-grade book. Thus far, I will say that it seems odd to me that Zen isn't in actual therapy for what seems to be a recovery from an abusive household that stunted her identity development.

I also am not a fan of the interludes. They feel disruptive and unnecessary as part of the book as of now.
