Almost done. This is certainly a Rubik’s Cube of a novel. I’ve had to refer back several times to pick up the thread. But the gestalt is taking on an identifiable shape. Lie a mosaic you have to step back from to see

First. I love Goodreads!!! If not for this app — or whatever it is— I would not know the title is the same as that of a play by Jean Genet. Really?!?
Second. If you read only one story from this strange book, make it Chapitre Sept, The Pond. It’s nothing short of amazing as a stand alone short story.
