Status Updates From Bullied

The one about Cameron and his mother was my least favorite. The mother was a huge bigot of all kinds which was evident almost from the start. “Special rights.” “Flaunting it.” Ugh. Not to fond of the easy ending.

This story was what could have happened in the one prior. Help could have been forthcoming and it would have changed everything. It was still emotional but not in quite the sad way as the last one.

The story about Caiden, Rick and Tina really had me in tears. I wasn’t at all surprised at how things turned out. What outcome could there be? Even in 2025 this sort of bullying is still going on and the same kind of outcomes are happening.

Seeing what’s happening to Curtis I’ve had to stop reading a few times. It makes me anxious and scared of what he might do.

Kind of in love with this book. I came out more than twenty years before it was published but not on high school. Some of these kids are really brave, some come out in solidarity, and some come to accept what they didn’t understand - from bully to ally.

Perception is a strange thing. When I came out I was always dying my hair and wearing earrings. I never pretended to be anything other than who I am over the decades. But somewhere along the line I decided I wanted my behavior to be “normal”. In a way it was “I’m gay but you’d never know it” even though people did. Idk if that’s fear or whatever. Maybe dating jocks was my downfall!
