If you'd told me years ago that I'd be reading M/M Lovecraft fan fiction for a book club in 2026 I would not have believed you...
This book... I don't care for the plot (so far) and yet I can't look away. Somehow it feels important that I experience this book just so I can say I've read published gay Lovecraft fanfic lmao.
But also it's a long book that's dragging on, so we'll see how long til I DNF.

Lucy’s previous boarder had left behind some issues of Galaxy, and Barlow read them with abstract interest. Their future was the same one he’d read about in Amazing Stories twenty years earlier, only it had gone gray and gotten tangled up in ideas of universal law.

“You can be my Virgil in the underworld of the tortilla,” he said. Why does everyone want me to be their Virgil? Barlow didn’t say. Why can’t I be Dante, for once?

...I had a view of College Hill, lit by the afternoon sun. For one long moment, I saw the city the way Howard always had, as a dream-city, where the colonial past curled like a cat, sleeping in a doorway, which might wake up at any moment, stretch, and come back to life.
