They’ve won. But the story isn’t over.

I guess they’ve one. But they’ve changed.

I honestly don’t know if Ubu will survive this encounter, or be united with Maria.

Is victory in sight?

They’ve both made big mistakes, but the only kids despite their physical maturity and intelligence.

Go, Maria! Damn, she’s got tolerance to those meds. It’s practically nourishment for them. I think/hope Twelve will see it to the end of the story.

She’s certainly not afraid to take risks! Of course, she’s ELEVEN.

“I just want to be happy with you.” THIS is the focus.

So Beloved is assured by the de Suarez’s perceived similarity to herself. I wonder how things will turn out for Twelve, who is individuating.

I love Williams’ understanding/creation of his characters’ inner worlds.

I could’ve answered Maria’s question about the stars. But then maybe the atmospheres they’ve been in don’t refract sunlight/starlight the same way.

Ubu’s behaviour is Maria’s plan. Right?

I hadn't even thought of that as an option!

I'm not entirely sure what deal Ubu will make, but I think I have an inkling. If I'm right, this is gonna get bizarre.

I don't know how things will play out, but three's a crowd, even though Ubu seems to be looking for a way out.

The trials and tribulations of youth! They’re all young, Twelve included, but they’re living by high stakes. Poor older guy falling for Maria. Tragically not immune to the madness of infatuation. Feeling vital/young/alive is a powerful drug. Not always misleading, but in his case, hopeless. And all Maria did to inspire that was exist.

Beautiful scenes. Colourful, exotic, futuristic, tacky. Nice characterization. When you’re young, you feel so much and things/people have too much significance. All that angst of transient things. I was too young to appreciate this when I first came across this book. Now, I think it’s glorious.

I'm really impressed with how Williams can convey/understand the perspective of a character like Twelve, how he can (be bothered to) imagine what it must be like for such a creature. I wonder, is Williams uncommonly empathetic? Because I have neither the desire nor motivation to create a character like Twelve (who is just plain repulsive to me).

“Moonquake”’s a nice word. It’s mind boggling how Williams imagined such a scenario. I find these visceral, nonhuman organisms repulsive. That intelligence inhabits them makes them worse. I can understand how they’d deem us simple and contemptible, but I don’t envy them.

I shan't try to anticipate how this will play out.

Ubu needs Maria.

I could never have imagined a conflict of that nature.

For someone supposedly so intelligent, I find Ubu rash. Maria considers things more thoroughly.

This chapter reminds me of Project Hail Mary. I honestly find these nonhumanoids repulsive. They're like a morass of organic matter that eats itself excretes itself, gives birth to and reabsorbs itself.

I am both awed and repulsed when scenes are written in which human(oid)s communicate with nonhuman(oid)s.
