Status Updates From Be My Best Man

Now this is more like it. This feels similar to Last Christmas in London (I don’t remember the exact title, sue me). That’s exactly what I want from Con Riley.

At this point I don’t even care about the romance, but I’m finishing it because I need to see Vanya’s happy ending.

This is taking me forever to read. I really like Vanya but I am frustrated and the romance is really meh.

I love that Vanya has no idea what he is doing with the whole personal shopping thing. 😂

Not enough groveling! I want Jason to WEEP WITH REMORSE over threatening Vanya with deportation

Even if Jason grovels his ass off, that dropped it from a 4 star to a 3 star for me, I think. I love Vanya but I want to punch Jason right now. Particularly since Jason had a troubled childhood with foster homes, why wouldn’t he understand the complexities of Vanya’s life and how awful it would be to hold something like that over someone’s head?

Jason threatening to go to immigration if Vanya doesn’t follow through for Chantel’s wedding preparations is just... beyond shitty. And while I get that Vanya lied to him about a lot — through omission in almost all cases — and that he’s hurt by that, saying that threat when he knows Vanya is illegal and struggling is just... villain level awful. Can’t forgive it, I don’t think. Just words, but still

I’ve been kind of meh on Jason this whole book, but his consent-seeking love confession/dirty-talk (I don’t know how else to describe it 😂) is simultaneously the sweetest and the hottest. Finally starting to think he deserves Vanya (not that he ever did anything wrong before, he just wasn’t that interesting in comparison).

But it’s not only the way he appears that has all those butterflies sinking inside Vanya like their wings are weighted. It’s the thought of not getting to talk after a long day of virtual silence that’s completely crushing.

They’re joined at lips and hips and ankles, dovetailed as they kiss like a craftsman put them together. Jason reaches out with one hand and catches hold of the counter.
He has to when he’s so close to falling.

Jason wants to do that for him.

It isn’t a usual greeting. Truthfully, it’s a needless excuse; what Chantel caught them doing is obvious. Vanya rushes on regardless while pointing at the exposed beam on the ceiling. “Was looking at Jason’s first big wood.”

Vanya reacts almost as quickly.
He shoots off Jason’s lap so fast he only narrowly avoids falling. Then he recovers, flame-faced, as he scrambles to put some space between them. His hand shakes as he gestures around the room. “Was having grand tour.”

Bwahaha oh, poor Vanya. The first time he lets loose even slightly with Jason and Jason’s brother’s fiancee walks in on it 😅😅
