Status Updates From With a Kiss

There’s nothing sadder than a story with great potential gone to utter bat-shite waste.

Until now, the pivotal plot point and title focus of why a kiss is the only thing that woke him from the coma—and why no one has known about this “remedy”—has not been explained. One chapter left. Ughhhh. This promising story turned out to be such a drag. Why???? ☹️

“He was simply going to follow the other man’s lead and trust that Marcus would look after him. Another wave of pleasure raced through him with the idea, with the very possibility that he was still capable of doing such a thing.” OK I don’t get it. Liam just said he loves the guy and HE IS THE ONE WHO DEMANDED SEX so WHY IS HE BLOODY AFRAID?? Is he an unexperienced virgin teenage girl? Why is he so F all of a sudden?

OK. It’s almost over and the goddamned pace hasn’t really changed from the slow, dragging inch by inch advance it’s had since after the rising action. Heck the story moved faster at the beginning and now it’s at a ridiculous snail’s pace, and all the build up? It’s for a non-existent climax. Liam is still a weakling, and Marcus has turned into a tepid parody of a vampire. What is happening? This has become boring af.

For an “erotic” story, it has sure been scrimpy with the actual sex and steamy interactions so far. The mains haven’t even really gone beyond kissing yet. I really hope the remaining 35% makes up for that, or I’ll be very sexually frustrated, and I give no more than a star when I am sexually frustrated, LOL.

Good gods, Liam’s C-PTSD-triggered relentless self-deprecation is so frustrating because it reminds me so much of my own. 🤦🏻 Only I doubt there is ever any lover in the “real” world as patient as Marcus (or my other “book boyfriends” for that matter - all of whom have infinite patience). WHY. If only someone could magically whisk me away to the “fictional” world the way Brad was in Bro and the Beast!

Think this might officially be the first book I am to finish by a British author and I am luxuriating in the more proper syntax and tenses that, for the most part, are absent in works by American authors. Their oversimplification of sentences and only ever using two kinds of tenses to mean every other instance can be so jarring and confusing! (Though not all American authors are guilty of this, of course. Just more.)

Liam is not the epitome of masculinity, being extremely soft, sweet, sensitive, and pliant—almost breakably gentle-souled… BUT he still doesn’t come off as F. He’s still M.

Hmm, interesting take on vampires. I’ve read several vampire-lore centred stories but this is the first time I’ve heard of one where the state of the victim affects the taste of their blood. This gives more credence to the erotic aspect often associated with feeding. It never made sense to me before, but if the vampire needs their prey’s blood to be delicious then they’d have reason to pleasure them while they drank.

Marcus is such a sick and smug little psycho, I love it, haha.

My stomach is rumbling but I don’t want to stop reading. Haha. Maybe some coffee at least, to break my fast…

Ohh! Set in London and well-written! F yeah! Haha. Too bad they didn’t use British spelling. At least, the MC doesn’t come off as a F like some other MM romance MC’s I’ve read of late.
