Status Updates From A Legacy of Spies

Excellent read so far.

I don't find his narrative style particularly interesting nor the format. I was under the impression his prose was quotable and it's anything but. Having trudged through most of it, it's time to give up. Apologies for those who enjoyed it

I'll be honest saying reading this story is akin to watching a ping pong match since the narrative bounces in a variety of directions then interrupted by lengthy chapters of Peter reading and reviewing reports. If this the style used in his other books I won't bother

The story keeps the reader on his toes due to code names, jumps between location and years and reading of documents. Since I'm obviously reading this out of order I'm aware George Smiley is central to Brit intelligence and is continually referenced in the plot. Chapter 6 is nearly 50 pages too! The narrative is indeed the sort we expect from spies

It's interesting how the author demonstrates the dramatic difference of affluence between the James Bond MI6 and the real thing. The safe flats are dingy, furniture old and worn, and modern technology unavailable. No Aston Martin or custom tailored apparel either.

This being my first by this author I was unaware he was a former member of British intelligence which sets him apart from the majority of those who pen spy stories
