I pretty much only pick this up these days when my need for validation around caring about animals outweighs my need to avoid being all triggered by hearing about what happened to them. There's so much interesting history but it's also very single issue, dated, and written by a guy who can definitely be and talk like a brodude too much. I'll finish it some day...

I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I had no idea how many activists, including teens, were straight up murdered by sport hunters that got off without as little as a traffic ticket. While surviving activists were put in jail for years for protest or property destruction. I never cease to be amazed at just how invested people and their governments are in exploiting and killing others for fun or profit.

This book lacks an analysis of issues intersecting with AL activism. But, I guess, in a book that is already 647 pages, they have to be choosy on what to focus on. It is jarring just how criminalized animal activism has become. I knew this, but when you compare people in prison for decades now to people getting $100 fines back when, it really hits you how invested the country is in animal exploitation capitalism.

Vivisectors are the scum of the Earth. Ugh I already knew about so many of these indications but reading the details.....

This is definitely a book I'll take my time with and will take months to read. I don't read stuff that details animal cruelty anymore but there's an exception with this because of the rescues. Though I'm still skipping over graphic descriptions. If you're triggered (like me) by animal abuse you obviously want to take this slow but so far it's really good.
