AND THE PLOT THICKENS!! Feels like EVERYone has some secret plan and they are not overlapping and conflicting and... delicious tension and a surprise.

Ih my, oh my, oh NO. 4 hours to go. Seems both too much and not enough for the event that was coming for sooooo maaaaany chapters and books. Best/worst thing? This has been going reaaaally well so far. 4 or more stars well. This is going to either bring it home or break it, and last time, it broke it. The spoiler does kinda help, even though I know the main characters have plot armour.

Oh no. Hypothesis time. She's going to go against soooo many vamps. Old, powerful vamps. She needs an edge and it seems stopping time is not going to be enough, this time around. So she's getting the ability to... reverse time? To learn from a fight that only happened for her? Girl, this is getting scary. And it makes sense why you'll get, eh, the thing, afterwards. The price of victory.

Just beautiful. Jane is getting her own clan and instead of resisting, she's claiming people and beings left and right. That's my girl.

THAT. That's what I don't get. Ed went chasing after a "minor" vamp. She's no one special and she is just one person. He failed to catch her. But Ed is going to conquer all of Europe???? These characters can hardly wipe their behinds without Jane stepping in at some point with some action to make Important Stuff happen but... sigh. Power balance, I keep telling you.

This book is really hitting the bullseyes!!! What glorious drama. What a glorious fight! And the French catch-phrase-taunt? Chef's kiss. This. these chapters so far, is what I wanted Jane Yellowrock as a character and as a series to be.

Well, darn, that's the point, stupid. You betrayed... everyone, really. You wanted death or forgiveness. You're getting punished. Maybe others wouldn't see it as a punishment but that's what it is. Tailored just for you. And I approve. Good one, Leo.

Knowing what's going to happen? I realise I can't be angry at Leo. He is scheming and manipulative and... weirdly selfless. I am allergic to someone saying they're "doing it for your own good" but Leo acts all high-handed and expects to be made a bad guy while kind of being nice and that? Now that is a different matter.

Well, this is the price of overachieving - I have been reading short stories from this series and some of them are hard to place in the timeline. And yesterday, I have read, despite my misgivings, a short story set after this book that had like, serious spoilers for what happens here. I am already dreading this book. Or hey, maybe it will help me not quit the whole series. Silver lining?
