Shocked to find only at 30% this feels a slog.

Reads like a sequel, following on directly without any easing in/catching up. Also feels like the main story is the previous couple which leaves this story floundering about the sidelines - not great especially when the main character constantly feels useless and overlooked.

Perfect depiction of the personality type that is relentlessly negative and undermining and hateful while managing to never quite say anything that you can argue with or defend against.
