Status Updates From Sea and Sky (Aecoria, #1)

I read this in its earlier stages and loved it. With this final version out, it delves more into the minds of the H/h, which makes it even better.

Still figuring out if I like Nishad or if I need to like him. Still an enjoyable story.

She always spoke with cool frankness and never a hint of sarcasm, for sarcasm required feeling.

Finished chapter 1. I am intrigued.

Okay, matters are improving. Now if Nishad will continue this trend of not ordering Isolde about and realizing that she's truly skull-fucked, I'll continue being okay with him.

Something about Nishad really sets me on edge. I can't point to what, where or why...but I don't like him. Unless something changes, I actually don't want him and Isolde to end up together.

This is weird. -.-

Huh. A plot twist that doesn't make the story more messed up. Will wonders never cease. :)

This is my first mermaid romance. It's very good. Isolde is not the typical mer beauty but she's well rounded and interesting.

"So far one of my captives has tried to stab me and another threatened to bite me to death. What a promising start to the day."

...Book, if you're trying to make me hate this guy, you're doing it wrong. :D

(Also, Ayanna is still the only decent person with any authority I've met. Everyone else is awful or messed up in some way. )

Situation is improving, but I still don't care for Nishad. Dude, it is not that hard a situation to figure out.

Oh, and Isolde is one messed-up mer-chick. Yikes. O.o

...dude, if that's what you call being a "considerate" lover, I'd hate to encounter your version of "inconsiderate." >:(

The more this goes on, the sorrier I feel for Isolde. The poor girl is so messed up. :(

Not so sorry for Nishad. Still not sure if I like him or dislike him.

Jeez, most of the people in this are awful in some way or have nasty plans. Its weird that the kindest and most moral character I've met so far is the male lead's mistress. Everyone else is either skull-fucked, cynical, downright mean-spirited or some combination of the three.

For fantasy romance, this sure has quite a bit of grit. O.o

Now we have our male lead. So far I kind-of like him, I kind-of don't. We shall see.

What I do like; the set-up behind the arranged marriage. I normally hate this trope, but once again I've been served a trope I hate in a way I'm enjoying.

...aaaand once again Crews doesn't pull any punches with the trauma. I already feel sorry for Isolde. O.o

Wow. I am really impressed with how lean that world-building bit was. Three pages and I'm left with a basic, functional grasp on several important points regarding mer-people...and then its plot-time.

I think I'm gonna like this. :D

Heather Crews gave me an NA romance that I liked, and I normally hate NA. Let's see if she can do the same with fantasy...
