Sayer Wesley had gone to prison as the person I trusted most in this world and come out a stranger. He wore his five years in prison like new skin, flexing the hard-fought years with bared teeth and shredded muscle. There was no softness left in him, no gentle touch or understanding ear. Only anger. Only hatred.

I knew I was being paranoid. I was always paranoid. Being paranoid had kept me alive for twenty-five years. I wasn’t going to quit on the one thing that was working for me.

I was a good mom like eighty-five percent of the time. Then there was that fifteen percent that was all lies so I could eat her snacks and not feel bad about the calories.

Nobody set out to live a life of crime. It was something you fell into ass-backward and then spent the rest of your life trying to figure out how to crawl your way out.

But he was my constant then and he is the constant ghost that haunts me now.

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT. Oh man, this book was so crazy. I have a feeling the person who kidnapped Caro's daughter was Atticus. The man is crazy and he's been waiting to act on his revenge against Caroline since she was 10 freaking years old. How crazy, right? Anyway, I'm glad Sayer finally knows that he has a daughter with Caro. It's about time!!!

I didn't think I would love reading this so much but the story and characters are all so interesting and heartbreaking. I feel like Caro should have told Sayer... there must be a misunderstanding somehow. I feel like he would have left the organization if she told him. UGHHH. It's like what could've been, you know?
