After the news, Roon tried to recruit Sarah and Cowboy to work under him. Of course, they wouldn't accept his offer. Threats were muttered by Roon after Cowboy rejected him. By Cowboy's signal, Reno took Roon's body, erasing his consciousness with the help of the information from Project Blank Mind. Now, Cowboy had a friend in Obritial and things could change real fast.

Everything settled after the assault on the shipment, the thirdmen without their master came to Dodger's place for peace. Couceiro was brought down, and Roon replaced him. They were informed that Orbital Soviet would legitimise the market, taking Cowboy out of business. They wanted to avoid the same incident from happening again by taking out the variables.

With four detlas against six frigates and one shuttle. The Cowboys' crew did the impossible. The shuttle was taken down by Meruice kamikaze into the juncture of its wing and fuselage. With Pony Express falling in the sky, Cowboy polleled from the seat and chuted over a Joshua tree. He hired a dark-skinned woman trike driver and rendezvoused with the rest of the team in Boulder City.

Since Sarah's location was compromised due to Deud's call, Tempel attacked Dodger's base. Sarah was working in a trench when it occurred. Only with the combat prowess of Murice's piloting skill were they able to fend off the attack in Sarah's area. She found that one of Cunningham's assistants was captured, which assured his presence in the op. And he was located and killed.

Sarah was on communications duty. She received the date and time for the next Tempel's shipment from Roon. There would be six Hyperion-class frigates escorting the shuttle. Sarah relayed that to Dodger. He thought that was doable. After that, Sarah received Roon's call. She noticed something was up. And she told the tech behind her that the call was monitored.

With no difficulty, Cowboy brought down the shuttle that was carrying the Huntington's cure. Once that happened, Michael, Dodger and Roon sank Tempel's stock price down over 50%. But with the quick and effective response from Couceiro. The price bounced back and stabilised. The plan was ruined. When Cowboy was back on the ground, he opted for another run.

Sarah called her brother through an encrypted phone link in an armoured limo. Nick was still with Daud, even though Tempel had abrogated their contract with him. Sarah figured that might be another trap laid by Tempel, so she warned Daud to be careful. Sarah could get rid of Nick with just a word to the Hetman, but his presence gave Daud hope, so she refrained from doing that.

Sarah met up with Cowboy a quarter mile behind the Dodger's place. There was a camouflage covering the Pony Express, preparing her for a run to Nevada tomorrow. The incident still shook Sarah. She was glad Reno was there to help her. Cowboy asked if she wanted to ride along. She gave him a sidelong grin with a yes.

As Sarah escaped from the hospital, she hopped onto an automatic truck. It was manned by AI, and it locked her inside the cabin for her unauthorised entry. A black car was right behind her to pursue. Using the red phone in the cabin, she called Reno for help. Reno took control of the truck and rammed it sideways into the black car. It got pinwheeled and flew off the embankment.

Reading Hardwired - Chapter 17

Since Reno lived in the public crystal, he exploited his strength as a ghost, hacking into the Tempel's crystal. It turned out to be a success, and Tempel was on the back foot. Andre got desperate; he tried to kidnap Sarah for interrogation. Sarah gave him a roundhouse kick, dropping him like a sack of sugar. She was drugged by Andre's surprising needle and escaped by a hair's breadth.

Reading Hardwired - Chapter 17

Turned out Sarah's hunch was right, Mslope was after Sarah. But Tempel wanted to negotiate instead of trying to kill her. A representative, Andre, showed up in the half house's lounge to cut a deal with her. Tempel wanted Hetman in particular, and they needed Sarah to betray his location. Since Sarah only craved a way out of the well, after a couple of meetings, she accepted the deal.

After Cowboy and Sarah spent their night in Blue Silk, he went back to Dodger's place. Sarah visited Daud and met this man called Nick Mslope who helped pay Daud's bills. He suggested taking Daud to Africa and offered him a job. Sarah knew that things like this just don't happen in real life so she assumed Mslope was in Tempel's payroll.

Cowboy couldn't sleep in Sarah's room, so he went to the first bar he could find and tried to get a hold of someone. He ended up calling Reno of all people. Reno became a ghost trapped in public crystal after the attack on his home. After Reno told Cowboy something only they knew about, he knew Reno's ghost was real. And he told Reno he would find him a body.

Cowboy and Sarah travelled back to Tampa. Cowboy suggested going back to Blueslik to wait for the meeting with Michael. Sarah moved her brother into a recovery house in a Tampa suburb, where he met a rich man from southern Africa. Knowing that the rich man might be after her, Sarah warned him, but he got upset. He told Sarah that he didn't have to depend on her money anymore.

Cowboy and Sarah wandered inside Roon's home. They found Roon by accident when he sat on a tall white chair, facing a portable computer deck. Roon woke up, moving dreamily across the room. He found Cowboy and Sarah in the room, told them he loved them. It was a collective nightmare that included Cowboy and Roon.

Reading Hardwired - Chapter 14

The boy, Raul, rebelled against Roon by trying to kill him with a table knife. Roon was disappointed by the act. He sent Raul outside the gates, for that would be the worst punishment. Cowboy secretly gave the boy a credit needle for his departure, trying to mitigate his guilt. In a sitting room inside the orbital structure, Roon accepted Cowboy's proposal.

Reading Hardwired - Chapter 14

Cowboy watched the pale dawn in his room, talking to Sarah about his next move. All of the mics and cams inside the room were disposed of. Sarah told Cowboy that Roon was fucking the children. A deep disgust flared in Cowboy's gut. He didn't want to deal with Roon. He wanted to stay "clean". Sarah told him that staying clean was not a luxury that everyone could afford.

The scenes interlaced between the travelling to Roon's home and the meeting. Roon treated himself as a higher being than the rest of the people on earth. He believed that he was the pioneer to guide Earth to a new height. There were a boy and a girl that Roon took in as acolytes. By taking them in, he thought he had given them unlimited possibilities instead of dying in the street.

Cowboy met Roon, one of the Tempel's ex CEO. Roon was a terrible man, saying Cowboy and Earth were mud, and he and space were the vision. A really patronising man. Cowboy was imagining a scenario where he would break the glass in his hand and kill the bastard. He didn't do it because he had already made his compromise with this madness, this horror.

Cowoby called Dodger to report the situation. Some of the orbital mercs tried to set up an ambush for Dodger. But he saw it from a million miles away. It was resolved without much effort. After Arkady's death, an orbital guy called Calvert took over the operation. It sounded like he was much worse than Arkady. Cowboy figured it was Cunningham using a different name.

Sarah visited him brother Daud in the hospital. Accidentally, she found out that he's been getting endorphin doses in secret. Anger filled her veins, and she asked who provided him with the drugs. Duad reluctantly answered that a breaded nurse named Joseph sorted him out. Sarah went to the nurse and taught him a lesson. The nurse was terrified.

After Sarah and Cowboy finished with their business on the bed, she woke up and started shadow boxing in the middle of the room. He watched in his bed silently, then realised the Weasel, the cybersnake, was running its swift, deadly patterns in combination with Sarah's hand strikes. Fear filled him; his heart thrashed in his chest. He gave her plenty of room when she came back to bed.

Cowboy met Sarah upstairs in her small room. He told her that he had killed Arkady, and they might be able to win this war with a plan. Sarah seemed hesitant, thinking about the possibility of losing. But she joined forces with him nonetheless. She contacted Hetman to arrange a meeting for Cowboy the next day. At night, they spent the night together at Cowboy's room in Ritz Flop.

Cowboy and his Flash Force bodyguard sat in a car in front of the Blue Silk. Once another Flash Force man signalled the bar was safe, Cowboyboy loped through the cool, inviting door. He met Maurice inside and found out that he was a pilot too. They talked about flying for a while. As Cowboy brought up wanting to talk to Sarah. Maurice told him to go to the back and up the stairs.
